Mandazi Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour                                                  
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • ½ cup coconut milk or water
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients – In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and cardamom.
  2. Add wet ingredients – Mix in the egg, butter, and coconut milk (or water) to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough – Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out and cut – Roll the dough to about ½-inch thick and cut into triangles or preferred shapes.
  5. Fry until golden brown – Heat oil in a pan and deep-fry the Mandazi until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Drain and serve – Place on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Serve warm.
