Follow this simple recipe for perfectly crispy, flavourful crab cakes. |
Ingredients
1 l b fresh lump crab meat
1/ 2 cup breadcrumbs
1/ 4 cup mayonnaise
1 large egg, beaten
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/ 2 tsp salt
1/ 4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp unsalted butter (for frying)
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
I Instructions
1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large bowl, gently mix the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, beaten egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
2. Form the Cakes: Divide the mixture into small patties (about 6-8, depending on your size preference). Place them on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.
3. Cook the Crab Cakes: In a large skillet, heat the butter and oil over medium heat. Once hot, gently place the crab cakes in the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
4. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the crab cakes from the skillet and let them drain on a paper towel. Serve warm with tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or a light salad.
Tips for success
1. Use fresh lump crab meat for the best flavor and texture.
2. Refrigerating the patties before cooking helps prevent them from falling apart.
3. Cook on medium heat to achieve a crispy crust without burning.
