 Ingredients.

  • 4 slices of thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast work best)

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup (120ml) milk (whole milk or half-and-half for a richer taste)

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (optional)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)

For Serving:

  • Maple syrup

  • Powdered sugar

  • Fresh berries

  • Whipped cream

Procedure

Step 1: Make the Custard

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Step 2: Soak the Bread

  1. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tbsp butter.

  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 15-20 seconds per side. Ensure it absorbs enough custard without becoming soggy.

  3. Let excess custard drip off before placing the bread in the pan.

Step 3: Cook the French Toast

  1. Place the soaked bread onto the heated skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp.

  2. Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy

  1. Transfer to a plate and serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
