Ingredients.
4 slices of thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast work best)
2 large eggs
½ cup (120ml) milk (whole milk or half-and-half for a richer taste)
1 tbsp granulated sugar (optional)
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
For Serving:
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar
Fresh berries
Whipped cream
Procedure
Step 1: Make the Custard
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Step 2: Soak the Bread
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tbsp butter.
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 15-20 seconds per side. Ensure it absorbs enough custard without becoming soggy.
Let excess custard drip off before placing the bread in the pan.
Step 3: Cook the French Toast
Place the soaked bread onto the heated skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp.
Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
Transfer to a plate and serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
